Swim Meet 101

What Parents should Bring

The following is a list of tips to help make meets as pleasurable as possible for parents:

  • Bring a Sharpie for marking your child’s event, heat and lane info on their arm/leg.
  • Bring a highlighter to mark your child’s event info in the heat sheet.
  • Bring a folding chair, along with an umbrella or other shading device.
  • Your swimmer must remain near the ready bench area during the meet. They risk missing their swim event if the ready bench volunteers can’t find them.
  • The Head Coach must know who is available for each meet. No-shows or late swimmers cause stress and confusion. Please communicate any last minute changes to the coach via text.
  • Please remember, the Fighting Frogs Swim Team should be a fun, positive experience for your child.
  • Bring cash. All meets will have concessions. The proceeds fund equipment for our swim teams.

In the example above, this child is swimming:

    event #1 (E), heat #2 (H), in lane #3 (L); and.

It is important that each swimmer has all events, heat and lane information clearly marked on their body (arm or leg) with a Black Sharpie.

    Swim Meet Etiquette

As Fighting Frogs, we seek to stand out from the crowd and set a positive example for others. During swim meets, proper etiquette is necessary and required.

Set the example-especially at home meets! This includes following pool rules: no running, no horseplay. These rules are in place to avoid injury, so it is crucial to follow them, even if no one is watching.

    Additional Meet Rules:

    1. We DO NOT go into any other areas during the meet! This includes the large pool when we have home meets, & the baby pools when we have away meets!

    2. During the meets, swimmers are expected to sit with their team in their designated area. We do not want you to miss your event because we can’t find you!

    3. We respect each other, parents, officials, & the other team! Practice good sportsmanship!

    4. Clean up after yourselves! Trash belongs in the trash cans!

    5. Arrive on time for your warm ups! If you miss warm ups, you will not warm up.

    6. Bring water/Gatorade & light snacks.

    7. Meet entries are completed days in advance. If you are not able to attend a meet, please provide a week’s advance notice (or as much as possible). We understand that emergencies happen, but your child’s unexpected absence from a meet can affect the rest of the team.

    8. Please come prepared! Your swimmer should be marked, (see graphic provided), and have their cap, goggles, and suit all ready in time for warm ups. Coaches and team reps are swamped during the time before meets--it is infinitely helpful to us when swimmers come already marked and ready to swim! *Your swimmer's events, what heat/lane they are in, and what stroke they will be doing can all be found on the Swimtopia app.

    9. Volunteer! Summer Swim relies heavily on the involvement of parents. We do keep track of who volunteers, and we appreciate any support we get in keeping our meets running smoothly. More information can be found under the Parent Volunteer Information tab on our website or by contacting a coach or our Team Rep.
